The dichotomy of beauty and poison from above Butte Montana on a recent photo fligh:

I've driven by the Berkely Pit countless times, amazed at the scope of the scar on the landscape. On a recent photo flight, I was surprised to see the beauty up the upper reaches of the area. I never knew there was an upper holding pond, with its alluring carribbean blue, above and out of site of the massive 2,000 feet deep main open pit below. With this, and the hard to grasp number of 10,000 miles of tunnels that are under the valley as well, Butte never ceases to continually fascinate me!
